My First Lemonade Stand
Rising Kindergarteners and 1st graders
Let's sell lemonade! Young campers become "lemonade entrepreneurs" and learn how to make yummy lemonade and earn money selling it! From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, campers have fun all week while developing business savvy.  As a showcase event, campers launch the lemonade stand on Friday to raise money for a charity they select!

Science Stars Summer
Rising 2nd-4th graders
Become a ‘science star’ in this hands-on, STEM-focused camp! Led by a Hewitt science teacher, activities will include a cow eye dissection and a series of engineering projects like building a S'mores solar oven and jellybean structures. This camp will also explore the science of making butter and will introduce the chemistry of acids and bases. There will be a trip to the New York Hall of Science in Queens with its many great hands-on activities. 

NYC Exploration
Rising 3rd-6th graders
Join us as we explore the greatest city in the world together! Each day, we’ll take a field trip using public transportation to a different awesome place in New York. Possible destinations include art museums, Governors Island, the Museum of Broadway, a roller disco, Little Island, and Central Park.

Storytellers: Creative Writing
Rising 5th-8th graders
Campers in Storytellers: Creative Writing will enhance their writing skills and learn to work as a team in a creative setting. They will collaborate in brainstorming sessions to select an original story idea, complete individual writing assignments to flesh out their story and provide feedback and advice to their peers promoting social and emotional learning (SEL). Campers aim to finish their own stories by the end of the week, fostering creativity and stronger social skills in the process. 

Prototyping in Play
Rising Kindergarteners and 1st graders
This series of workshops is the first step before students can begin to learn how to code,  providing them with fundamentals in shaping their critical thinking skills. From an early age, exercising their muscles around design and computational thinking helps students improve their problem-solving, empathy, and innovation skills. Through each workshop, campers walk through a simulated design challenge and explore how to empathize and understand the needs of others, identify problems, brainstorm, and generate ideas. Campers will learn how to test and evaluate their ideas using prototypes, developing the skills they need to become well-rounded innovators. 

Young Diplomats
Rising 2nd-4th graders
Young Diplomats encourages campers to develop a global mindset and build international awareness early in life, an important skill in today's increasingly interconnected world. Campers will explore cultural differences across countries, languages, and currencies, and will learn country flags, geography games, famous landmarks, and current global events. These young diplomats will work together to come up with solutions to global problems like world hunger, poverty, and pollution.

Become a ‘science star’ in this hands-on, STEM-focused camp! Led by a Hewitt science teacher, activities will include a sheep heart dissection, a trip to the Liberty Science Center, making a canister rocket, writing with invisible ink, making a balloon-powered car, and using electricity to wire a room for sound and air. Those are just some of the incredible projects campers will be working on over the course of Science Stars Summer at Hewitt!

Journalist: Read All About It!
Rising 5th-8th graders
Campers collaborate in teams as intrepid reporters who write stories and create a digital newspaper of their own. Our junior journalists interview other campers, write about local news, author op-ed pieces, and manage the production of a cohesive digital publication. A compelling camp for aspiring school newspaper editors, this program strengthens campers’ writing proficiency and time-management skills in a fun environment that fosters creativity and self-confidence. 

Little Entrepreneurs: From Idea to Prototype

Little Entrepreneurs will unleash campers’ creativity! Coming up with an idea for a product or company that they want to create, campers then learn how to bring their ideas to life with prototypes, test those ideas with feedback from their peers, and work to take that feedback and build a final product that they will present to a panel of judges at the end of the week. It's rewarding to see your idea transformed into something tangible and real! Learning these skills at an early age helps campers explore how they can think like an entrepreneur by taking an idea and making it come to life with confidence and problem-solving! 

Behind the Scenes of Game Design
Rising 2nd-4th graders
The secret to getting young people interested in coding and design? Introduce them to how to create their own retro arcade games using MakeCode Arcade! Have your camper take advantage of their interest in playing games to learn new skills, develop their problem-solving, storytelling, and coding skills while working in a team, and boost their self-confidence! 

Model United Nations
Rising 5th-8th graders
Campers act as United Nations (UN) delegates, collaborating in teams to develop policy recommendations and debating current global issues aligned to the UN’s sustainable development goals. Campers in Model United Nations enhance their research and communication skills while gaining solid exposure to debating international affairs, problem-solving in a diplomatic context, and making persuasive presentations.

Problem Solving with Graphic Design
Rising 2nd-4th graders
In the real world, you are constantly faced with problems that need to be solved. Whether you’re designing a new product or coming up with a marketing campaign, you need to be able to identify the problem and come up with an effective solution. Graphic design can help campers learn how to identify and solve problems in a creative and effective way to give you a head start in teaching them how to communicate their ideas effectively! Campers will work with Canva and embark on different graphic design challenges! 

Designing Your Tech Startup: Wireframe to App
Rising 5th-8th graders
Entrepreneurship is about problem-solving and entrepreneurs are people who encounter a problem, and instead of getting frustrated or waiting for someone else to provide a solution, they go out and create that solution for themselves. This workshop provides practical knowledge for students and shows them how they can find a problem they want to solve, learn to validate that problem by doing customer interviews, learn how to prototype a product through app development, and then test it out rapidly by getting feedback from users. This provides students with a headstart as they go into high school and teaches them how to develop a broad range of various skill sets like technical skills, leadership, and creative thinking!

Young Game Designers 
Rising Kindergarteners and 1st graders
During Young Game Designers, campers are exposed to the idea of using design thinking as a learning method to generate their own answers and unleash their creativity while designing their own games. Game designers are storytellers and students get opportunities to put their stories into action. Designers are immersed in creating their own games and learn to understand how games are made and developed which helps expose them to new ideas. Your young game designer will travel through the design process from concept to building a finished game.

Emerging Tech, Ethics, and Design
Rising 2nd-4th graders
In our world today, emerging technologies have the potential to make great contributions to our world and it's critical that all young people are knowledgeable about the ethics behind emerging technologies and how they work. This workshop is a great first step for campers to engage in the design, reflection, and participation in the decision-making processes for new technology and its use. Campers will learn the core concepts around emerging technology and how we can all shape and build more equitable technologies. Campers leave this workshop with a new perspective on how emerging technologies work and most importantly become creators and not just consumers of technology.

From Idea to Mobile App
Rising 5th-8th graders
In this hands-on program, campers will learn to become creators, not just consumers of technology. They will learn to wireframe and create a solution for the question: What problem in your community can you solve with technology? Regardless of the future career your child plans to go into, the app-building process requires creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving — all fundamental to success in any path they choose to take on. Campers learn key project management skills as they build their apps in phases, ultimately learning how to market their app and present it to a panel of judges!
